The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 14 and 39 of the Prisons (Scotland) Act 1989[1] and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, and on the application of Northern Police Joint Board, hereby make the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.
These Rules may be cited as the Discontinuance of Legalised Police Cells (Portree) Rules 2001 and shall come into force on 31st March 2001.
Revocation
2.
The Rule made by the Secretary of State under section 30 of the Prisons (Scotland) Act 1877[2] dated 28th January 1881[3] which appointed the discontinued prison of Portree to be a legal prison for the detention of prisoners before, during or after trial for any period not exceeding 14 days is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Rules)
These Rules provide for the discontinuance, as at 31st March 2001, of the police cells in the possession of the Northern Joint Police Board at Portree as a place in which prisoners may be detained before, during or after trial for any period not exceeding 14 days.
