The Scottish Ministers make the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1) and all other powers enabling them to do so.
In accordance with section 134(2)(2) of that Act they have consulted with such representative organisations as they think fit.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway (Stages I and II) (Speed Limit) Amendment Regulations 2011 and come into force on 2nd May 2011.
2.-(1) The Glasgow Renfrew Motorway (Stages I and II) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1976(3) are amended as follows.
(2) In the Schedule-
(a)for paragraphs (1) and (2) substitute-
"(1) On the main westbound carriageway of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway from a point 200 metres generally south of the intersection of the south kerbline of the A8 Paisley Road and the east kerbline of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway to a point 145 metres west of the intersection of the west kerbline of Helen Street and the south kerbline of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway, a distance of 3.32 kilometres or thereby. | 50mph |
(2) On the main eastbound carriageway of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway from a point 145 metres west of the intersection of the west kerbline of Helen Street and the south kerbline of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway to a point 185 metres generally south of the intersection of the south kerbline of the A8 Paisley Road and the west kerbline of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway, a distance of 3.30 kilometres or thereby. | 50mph"; |
(b)omit paragraphs (3) and (4);
(c)for paragraph (12)a substitute-
"(12)a On the connecting road from its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway to a point 71 metres or thereby east of its junction with Dumbreck Road, a distance of 112 metres or thereby. | 50mph"; |
(d)for paragraph (13)a substitute-
"(13)a On the connecting road from a point 45 metres or thereby east of its junction with Dumbreck Road to its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway, a distance of 167 metres or thereby. | 50mph"; |

3. Regulation 2(i) to (iv) of the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway (Stages I and II) (Speed Limit) (Amendment) Regulations 1980(4) is revoked.

These Regulations amend the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway (Stages I and II) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1976 ("the 1976 Regulations") and partially revoke the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway (Stages I and II) (Speed Limit) Amendment Regulations 1980. The 1976 Regulations regulate the speed on the Glasgow Renfrew Motorway (M8). The amendments extend an existing 50mph zone on the main carriageway and apply 50mph speed limits to certain connecting roads (regulation 2).
1984 c.27. Section 17(2) was amended by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (c.22), Schedule 8, paragraph 28, by the Road Traffic Act 1991 (c.40), Schedule 4, paragraph 25 and Schedule 8, paragraph 1 and by the National Parks (Scotland) Act 2000 (asp 10), Schedule 5, paragraph 11. The functions of the Secretary of State were transferred to the Scottish Ministers by the Scotland Act 1998 (Transfer of Functions to the Scottish Ministers etc.) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/1750), article 2 and Schedule 1. The Scottish Ministers are the traffic authority by virtue of section 121A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (inserted by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Schedule 8, paragraph 70 and amended by the Scotland Act 1998 (Consequential Modifications) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/1400) as read with section 151(1) of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 (c.54)).
Section 134(2) was amended by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Schedule 8, paragraph 77.
