By the Lords of His Majesty’s Most Honourable Council
Their Lordships make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 48(1) and 60(3) of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992( 1) and all other powers enabling them to do so.
1. This Order may be cited as the Academic Awards and Distinctions (SRUC) (Scotland) Order of Council 2024 and comes into force on 14 October 2024.
2. In this Order—
“ the Act” means the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992,
“ the Institution” means SRUC( 2).
3.—(1) The Institution is specified as competent to grant such degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of section 48(2) and (3) of the Act other than in respect of completion of a programme of supervised research.
(2) The date specified for the purpose of section 48(2)(a) of the Act is 14 October 2024.
(3) Following any change of name of the Institution the competence to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions, arising from the specification in paragraph (1), continues to apply to the Institution as renamed.

This Order specifies SRUC, a higher education institution, as competent to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic awards or distinctions except where the award or distinction is made on completion of a programme of supervised research.
Article 3(2) provides that the institution may grant such awards and distinctions in respect of courses and programmes of study completed on or after 14 October 2024.
Article 3(3) ensures that the competence to grant academic awards and distinctions continues to apply should the institution be renamed.
SRUC is registered in Scotland under company number SC103046 and was designated as a higher education institution by S.S.I. 2008/177(when known as The Scottish Agricultural College).
