Summary: The complainant requested information concerning BBC staff that travelled from the UK to the US to cover the US mid-term elections. The complainant asked for information about the numbers of staff involved, either travelling from the UK or based in the US, and the travel and living costs incurred. The BBC stated that the requested information fell outside the scope of the Act because it is information held for the purposes of journalism, art or literature. The Commissioner-™s decision is that the requested information is genuinely held for the purposes of journalism. Therefore the BBC is not obliged to comply with Parts I to V of the Act.
