Summary
The invention related to a betting layout for roulette, and was claimed as an apparatus comprising the layout marked as shown in a drawing in combination with the roulette wheel and ball. The layout enabled the players to place "tier" and "voisin plus one" special bets themselves rather than hand them to the dealer, as was normal practice. Distinguishing Fishburn 57 RPC 245 and having regard to the substance of the invention, the hearing officer held that the resultant improvements in security (through a reduced risk of the dealer being distracted) and convenience of betting still constituted an advance in an excluded area under section 1(2)(c), namely a method of playing a game, and refused the application.
