Tourism (Overseas Promotion) (Wales) Act 1992 (c. 26)

1992 CHAPTER 26

An Act to enable the Wales Tourist Board to carry on abroad activities to promote tourism to and within Wales.

[16th March 1992]

Be it enacted by the Queen´s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:–

1 Power of the Wales Tourist Board to engage outside the UK in the promotion of tourism in Wales

(1) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (3) of section 2 of the [1969 c. 51.] Development of Tourism Act 1969, the powers of the Wales Tourist Board under the other provisions of section 2 of that Act shall include the power to carry on any activities outside the United Kingdom for the purpose of encouraging people to visit Wales.

(2) The Wales Tourist Board shall exercise the power referred to in subsection (1) above to carry on activities outside the United Kingdom only with the consent (which may be given from time to time with or without conditions) of the Secretary of State who shall, before giving or withholding such consent, consult the British Tourist Authority.

(3) Nothing in this section shall–

(a) affect the power of the British Tourist Authority to carry on any activities outside the United Kingdom for the purpose of encouraging people to visit Wales; or

(b) prevent the Wales Tourist Board from acting on behalf of the Authority as mentioned in section 2(3) of the Development of Tourism Act 1969.

2 Finance

There shall be paid out of moneys provided by Parliament any increase attributable to this Act in the sums so payable under the provisions of the Development of Tourism Act 1969.

3 Short title and commencement

This Act may be cited as the Tourism (Overseas Promotion) (Wales) Act 1992 and shall come into force at the end of the period of two months beginning with the day on which it is passed.
