The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, acting in relation to England and Wales, and the Secretary of State, acting in relation to Scotland, in pursuance of section 84(3)(a) of the Diseases of Animals Act 1950(1), as read with the Transfer of Functions (Animal Health) Order 1955, and of all their other enabling powers, hereby order as follows:-
1. This order, which may be cited as the Diseases of Animals (Extension of Definitions) Order 1971, shall apply throughout Great Britain.
2.-(1) In this order-
"the Act" means
"brucellosis" means
(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 applies to the interpretation of this order as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
3.-(1) For all the purposes of the Act, except section 8 (which requires outbreaks of disease to be reported to the police and affected animals to be isolated), the definition of the expression "disease"
(2) Nothing in this order affects the operation of the Epizootic Abortion Order of 1922.

This order extends the definition of disease in section 84 of the Diseases of Animals Act 1950 to include brucellosis for all the purposes of the Act, except that it does not become a notifiable disease under section 8.
