The Secretary of State in exercise of his powers under section 78(3) of the Armed Forces Act 1971 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. The Armed Forces Act 1971 shall come into force on 1st July 1972.
2. This Order may be cited as the Armed Forces Act 1971 (Commencement) Order 1972.

This Order brings into force the outstanding provisions of the Armed Forces Act 1971 on 1st July 1972. Section 1 of the Act (which relates to the duration of the Army and Air Force Acts 1955 (cc.18, 19) and the Naval Discipline Act 1957 (c. 53)) and section 78 thereof (which relates to the short title, construction and commencement of the Act) are already in force.
