Laid before Parliament
20th March 1975
Coming into Operation
14th April 1975
In exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 33 of the Police Act 1964, and after consulting the Police Council for the United Kingdom in accordance with section 4(4) of the Police Act 1969, I hereby make the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Police (Transferred Airport Constables) Regulations 1975.
2. These Regulations shall come into operation on 14th April 1975 and shall have effect as from 1st November 1974 so, however, that nothing therein shall be construed as authorising a retrospective reduction in the allowances payable to a person.
3.-(1) In these Regulations a reference to the principal Regulations is a reference to the Police Regulations 1971(1), as amended(2).
(2) In these Regulations a reference to a transferred constable is a reference to a member of a police force who was transferred thereto by an order under section 6 of the Policing of Airports Act 1974.
(3) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of these Regulations as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
4. Where the Secretary of State directs that this Regulation shall apply in the case of a transferred constable then, notwithstanding anything in the principal Regulations, in respect of any period specified by him by notice in writing given to the police authority, being a period in respect of which, but for the provisions hereof, he would be entitled to a rent allowance under Regulation 42 of the principal Regulations-
(a)he shall be entitled to an allowance hereunder at a rate determined by the Secretary of State;
(b)he shall not be entitled to a rent allowance under the principal Regulations.
Roy Jenkins
One of Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State

Whitehall
11th March 1975
These Regulations provide that a member of a police force transferred thereto under the Policing of Airports Act 1974 shall, if the Secretary of State so directs, be entitled to elect to receive an ad hoc allowance at a rate determined by the Secretary of State instead of a rent allowance under the Police Regulations 1971.
The Regulations have effect as from 1st November 1974 (the date on which the Policing of Airports (Heathrow) (First Supplementary) Order 1974 (S.I. 1974/1672) came into operation). Retrospection is authorised by section 33(4) of the Police Act 1964.
(1971 I, p. 439).
The amending instruments are not relevant to the subject matter of these Regulations.
