In exercise of the powers conferred by section 81 of the Education Act 1944 and vested in the Secretary of State(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Science, as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, hereby make the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Scholarships and Other Benefits (Amendment) Regulations 1979 and shall come into operation on 6th April 1979.
2. In Regulation 4(a) of the Scholarships and Other Benefits Regulations 1977 (grants of scholarships and other benefits) the words ", other than expenses in respect of clothing which the authority are authorised to provide by or under section 5 of the Education (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1948," shall be omitted.

These Regulations amend the Scholarships and Other Benefits Regulations 1977 to permit local education authorities to defray, in accordance with the Regulations, clothing expenses of children attending county, voluntary and special schools even though the clothing in question could be provided directly by the authority under section 5 of the Education (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1948.
