The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 8(6) and 18 of the Local Employment Act 1972 and now vested in him(1), hereby makes the following Order:-
1. This Order may be cited as the Derelict Land Clearance Areas Order 1979 and shall come into operation on 17th April 1979.
2.-(1) The areas described in the Schedule to this Order are hereby specified as derelict land clearance areas for the purposes of the Local Employment Act 1972.
(2) The Derelict Land Clearance Areas Order 1978 shall have effect subject to the amendment that the employment office areas of Aston, Birmingham, Handsworth, Small Heath and Washwood Heath shall be deleted from paragraph 2 of the Schedule thereto.

1. The area delineated as a special area for the purposes of the Inner Urban Areas Act 1978 on the map referred to in the Inner Urban Areas (City of Birmingham, Special Area) Order 1978, one copy of which map is deposited at the offices of the Secretary of State for the Environment and other copies of which are deposited at the principal offices of the Council of the City of Birmingham and of the West Midlands County Council.
2. The part of the employment office area of Handsworth which is not included in the area described in paragraph 1 above.
This Order specifies as derelict land clearance areas the areas described in the Schedule and deletes from the Derelict Land Clearance Areas Order 1978 otiose references to certain employment office areas which were specified as derelict land clearance areas by that Order but are now, as part of the City of Birmingham Special Area, so specified by this Order. The Special Area covers part only of the employment office area of Handsworth and so the remaining part is separately specified as a derelict land clearance area.
