The Metropolitan Counties (Local Statutory Provisions) Order 1979

The Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 262(9)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:-

1. This order may be cited as The Metropolitan Counties (Local Statutory Provisions) Order 1979 and shall come into operation on 30th August 1979.

2. The date on which all the local statutory provisions applying to the whole or part of a metropolitan county, so far as they so apply, are to cease to have effect is hereby postponed to 31st December 1980.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Section 262(9) of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that all local statutory provisions are to cease to have effect in metropolitan counties at the end of 1979. This order postpones the operation of this provision from the end of 1979 to 31st December 1980.
