The Secretaries of State respectively concerned with health in England, in Wales and in Scotland and the Department of Health and Social Services for Northern Ireland, acting jointly, in exercise of powers conferred by sections 85(1), 86(1), 91(2) and (3) and 129(5) of the Medicines Act 1968(1) and now vested in them(2) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, after consulting such organisations as appear to them to be representative of interests likely to be substantially affected by these regulations, hereby make the following regulations:-
1. These regulations may be cited as the Medicines (Contact Lens Fluids and Other Substances) (Labelling) Amendment Regulations 1981 and shall come into operation on 24th December 1981.
2.-(1) Regulation 7 of the Medicines (Contact Lens Fluids and Other Substances) (Labelling) Regulations 1979 (temporary and transitional provisions) shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation.
(2) In regulation 7(1) for "1st January 1982" there shall be substituted "1st January 1985".
(3) In regulation 7(2)(a) for "1st July 1982" there shall be substituted "1st July 1985".
(4) In regulation 7(2)(b) for "1st January 1983" there shall be substituted "1st January 1986".

These Regulations amend the temporary and transitional provisions of the Medicines (Contact Lens Fluids and Other Substances) (Labelling) Regulations 1979. The latter regulations are amended so that the requirements which they impose will come into effect on 1st January 1985 in relation to persons transitionally exempted under the Medicines Act 1968 from holding a product licence or a manufacturer's licence, on 1st July 1985 in relation to wholesalers and on 1st January 1986 in relation to retailers.
as applied by the Medicines (Specified Articles and Substances) Order 1976 (S.I. 1976/968).
In the case of the Secretaries of State concerned with health in England and in Wales by virtue of Article 2(2) of, and Schedule 1 to, the Transfer of Functions (Wales) Order 1969 (S.I. 1969/388) and in the case of the Department of Health and Social Services for Northern Ireland by virtue of section 40 of, and Schedule 5 to, the Northern Ireland Constitution Act 1973 (c. 36) and section 1(3) of, and paragraph 2(1)(b) of Schedule 1 to, the Northern Ireland Act 1974 (c. 28).
