The Public Records (British Railways Board) Order 1984

At the Court at Windsor Castle, the 11th days of April 1984

Present,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas a draft of the following Order was laid before Parliament and approved by resolution of each Houses of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by paragraph 7(1) of the First Schedule to the Public Records Act 1958, is pleased by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-

1. This Order may be cited as the Public Records (British Railways Board) Order 1984.

2. Subject to Article 3 below, all records of the British Railways Board which have been or may after the date of this Order be transferred by the British Railways Board to and accepted by the Keeper of Public Records shall be treated as public records for the purposes of the Public Records Act 1958.

3. Staff records shall not be treated as public records by virtue of Article 2 above until the expiration of the period of seventy-five years beginning with the first day of January in the year next after that in which they were created.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order provides that records of the British Railways Board which have been or may be transferred to the Keeper of Public Records shall be treated as public records, with the exception of staff records which are less than 75 years old.
