The Driving Licences (Exchangeable Licences) (No. 2) Order 1985

Coming into Operation

1st November 1985

The Secretary of State for Transport, being satisfied that satisfactory provision for the granting of licences to drive motor vehicles is made by the law of the countries specified in Article 2 of this Order, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 110(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1972(1) and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 110(3) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order:-

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Driving Licences (Exchangeable Licences) (No. 2) Order 1985 and shall come into operation on 1st November 1985.

Designation of countries

2. The following countries, namely Austria and Japan, are hereby designated within paragraph (b) of the definition of "exchangeable licence" in subsection (1) of section 110 of the Road Traffic Act 1972.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order designates the following countries, namely Austria and Japan, within paragraph (b) of the definition of "exchangeable licence" in section 110(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1972. The effect of the Order is that licences issued by the competent authorities of those countries will be exchangeable for an equivalent licence without a driving test under Part III of that Act if the holders satisfy the requirements of that part of that Act for the grant of a licence in exchange.
