The Secretary of State for Transport, after consulting with the organisations referred to in section 99(2) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970, in exercise of powers conferred by section 68 of that Act and now vested in him and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf(1) hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books) (Amendments) Regulations 1985 and shall come into operation on 31st December 1985.
2. The Merchant Shipping (Disciplinary Offences) Regulations 1972(2) are hereby revoked.
3. The Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books) Regulations 1981(3) shall be amended as follows:
(a)in regulation 1(1) the definition of "the Disciplinary Offences Regulations" shall be deleted;
(b)in regulation 10(3) paragraph (b) shall be deleted;
(c)in the Schedule Part II (entries relating to ships to which the Disciplinary Offences Regulations apply) shall be deleted.

These Regulations are consequential on the coming into force of section 23(7) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1979 (c. 39) which repeals sections 34-�38 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970 (which related to discipline on board ships registered in the United Kingdom) which have become virtually obsolete. Log books no longer have to contain entries concerning fines under the Disciplinary Offences Regulations, which cease to have effect.
