The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament and has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament in accordance with section 20(6) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1979:
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 20(1)(d), (3) and (4) of the said Act and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Oil Pollution) (Amendment) Order 1985 and shall come into operation on 7th January 1985.
2. The Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Oil Pollution) Order 1983 shall be amended by deleting in article 3(1) the words "the said Convention and Protocol" and substituting the following sub-paragraphs:-
"(aa)the Convention and Protocol; and
(bb)amendments thereto adopted by the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization at its 20th Session by resolution MEPC 14(20),".

This Order amends the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Oil Pollution) Order 1983 so as to enable regulations to be made to give effect to the amendments to the Annex of the Protocol of 1978 relating to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships 1973 adopted on 7th September 1984 by the Maritime Environment Protection Committee ("MEPC") of the International Maritime Organization at its 20th session.
The amendments adopted by MEPC are contained in Resolution MEPC 14(20), which may be obtained from IMO, 4 Albert Embankment, London SE1 7SR.
