The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 31(2) of the Petroleum Act 1987(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Petroleum Act 1987 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1987.
2. The provisions of the Petroleum Act 1987 specified in the Schedule hereto shall come into force on 1st September 1987.

This Order brings into force on 1st September 1987 all the provisions of the Petroleum Act 1987 which are not already in force either by virtue of section 31 of the Act itself or the Petroleum Act 1987 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1987 (S.I. 1987/820). The provisions establish safety zones around installations projecting above sea level in specified waters, and empower the Secretary of State to establish by order such zones around other installations in these waters. Vessels are prohibited from entering safety zones without lawful authority.
