1.-(a) The highway described in Schedule 1 to this Order and shown by striped hatching on the deposited plan; and
(b)The new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to construct along the routes described in Schedule 2 to this Order which connect the existing highway to become a trunk road with other highways at the place stated in that Schedule (the highways along these routes being in this Order referred to as ``the slip roads'')
shall become trunk roads as from the date when the new trunk roads are open to through traffic.
2. The centre lines of the slip roads are indicated by heavy black lines on the deposited plan.
3. The Secretary of State directs as respects any part of a highway which crosses the route of either of the slip roads that:
(a)where the highway is a highway maintainable at the public expense by a local highway authority, the part in question shall be maintained by that authority; and
(b)where the highway is not a highway so maintainable and is not maintainable under a special enactment or by reason of tenure, enclosure or prescription, the Secretary of State shall be under no duty to maintain the part in question,
until, in either case, a date to be specified in a notice given by the Secretary of State to the highway authority for that highway. The date specified will not be later than the date on which the relevant route is opened for the purpose of through traffic.
4. In this Order-
(1) All measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) (i) "the deposited plan" | means the plan numbered CSE 245/1/26/01, marked A404 Burchetts Green to M40 (Trunking and Slip Roads) Order 1987, signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 3PY; |
(ii)"the new trunk roads" | means the highways to be provided pursuant to the "A423 West of Maidenhead-Oxford Trunk Road (Maidenhead Thicket-Burchetts Green section and Slip Roads Order 1987."(3) |
5. This Order shall come into force on 20th November 1987 and may be cited as the A404 Burchetts Green to M40 (Trunking and Slips Roads) Order 1987.

The existing highway to become a trunk road is that length of the A404 which extends from a point about 170 metres north of the Burchetts Green roundabout northwards for a distance of 9.5 kilometres up to and including the roundabout junction between the A404 and the M40 motorway to the south of High Wycombe together with the four slip roads forming a junction between the A404 and the A4155 to the north east of Marlow.
Two routes to connect the north bound and south bound carriageways of the existing highway described in Schedule 1 above with the roundabout junction between the A423 and A404 at Burchetts Green (the new trunk roads along these routes being respectively given the reference numbers 1 and 2 on the deposited plan).
