1. The new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to construct-
(a)along the route described in Schedule 1 to this Order (the highway along this route being in this Order referred to as "the main new trunk road"); and
(b)along the routes described in Schedule 2 to this Order which connect the main new trunk road with other highways at the places stated in that Schedule (the highways along these routes being in this Order referred to as "the slip roads")
shall become trunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into force.
2. The centre lines of the new highways are indicated by heavy black lines on the deposited plans.
3. The highway along the route described in Schedule 3 to this Order, indicated by narrow striped hatching on the deposited plan, shall become a trunk road as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies Leicestershire County Council that the new highways are open for through traffic.
4. The Secretary of State directs as respects any part of a highway which crosses the route of any of the new highways that-
(a)where the highway is a highway maintainable at the public expense by a local highway authority, the part in question shall be maintained by that authority, and
(b)where the highway is not a highway so maintainable and is not maintainable under a special enactment or by reason of tenure, enclosure or prescription, the Secretary of State shall be under no duty to maintain the part in question, until, in either case, a date to be specified in a notice given by the Secretary of State to the highway authority for that highway. The date specified will not be later than the date on which the relevant route is opened for the purpose of through traffic.
5. The Secretary of State is authorised to construct the bridge specified in Schedule 4 to this Order as part of the main new trunk road and in the manner shown in that Schedule.
6. In this Order:-
(1) All measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway.
7. This Order shall come into force on 5th February 1988 and may be cited as the A604 Catthorpe-Harwich Trunk Road (Catthorpe to Rothwell Section and Slip Roads) Order 1987.

The route of the main new trunk road is a route 27.2 kilometres in length between the Catthorpe Interchange of the M1 and M6 Motorways near Swinford in the County of Leicestershire and Rothwell in the County of Northamptonshire. It starts at a point on the B5414 Rugby Road at its junction with the southbound slip road off the M1 Motorway which the Secretary of State is authorised to provide at Catthorpe in the County of Leicestershire in the M1 Motorway (Catthorpe Interchange) Connecting Roads Scheme 1987, and which is numbered 2 on the deposited plan to that Scheme which is shown on Map 1 in the deposited plan, (where it forms a roundabout), and then goes in a generally easterly direction passing to the north of the villages of Clay Coton, Northamptonshire (which is shown on Map 1 in the deposited plan), Elkington and Naseby, Northamptonshire (which are shown on Map 2 in the deposited plan), and to the south of the villages of Kelmarsh and Harrington, Northamptonshire (which are shown on Map 3 in the deposited plan), and terminates at a point on the A6 Trunk Road about 70 metres north-west of its junction with Loddington Road, south of Rothwell, Northamptonshire (which is shown on Map 4 in the deposited plan).
The routes of the slip roads are the following:-
(1) Junction of the main new trunk road with the A50 Northampton Road at Portly Ford Bridge
A route from the A50 Northampton Road (as proposed to be improved) at Portly Ford Bridge, Cold Ashby, Northamptonshire which bifurcates to connect with the eastbound carriageway of the main new trunk road all of which is given the reference number 1 on Map No. 2 in the deposited plan;
(2) Junction of the main new trunk road with the A508 Harborough Road, north of Scotland Wood
Two routes from the A508 Harborough Road (as proposed to be improved) which bifurcate to connect them with the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the main new trunk road to the north of Scotland Wood, Maidwell, Northamptonshire which are respectively given the reference numbers 3 and 4 on Map No. 3 in the deposited plan.
That part of the B5414 Rugby Road starting at a point about 20 metres east of the eastern boundary of the M1 Motorway and going southwards for about 480 metres to its junction with the slip road to the westbound carriageway of the M6 Motorway which the Secretary of State is authorised to provide in the M6 Motorway (Catthorpe Interchange) Connecting Roads Scheme 1987, which is numbered 1 on the scheme plan of the deposited plan to that scheme (all of which are shown on Map No. 1 in the deposited plan).
