Made
6th April 1987
In exercise of the power conferred upon me by section 59(4) of the Cable and Broadcasting Act 1984(1). I hereby make the following Order:-

Douglas Hurd

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order brings into force on 6th April 1987 sections 45 and 46 of the Cable and Broadcasting Act 1984. Section 45 amends section 2 of the Broadcasting Act 1981 (c. 68) so as to substitute, for 31st December 1996, 31st December 2001, as the date up to which the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has the function of providing television and local sound broadcasting services, and to remove the restriction on the date beyond which the Secretary of State may extend the duration of the IBA's function by order. Section 46 relieves the IBA of the duty to invite applications before entering into certain contracts.
