LANDLORD AND TENANT

The Assured Tenancies (Approved Bodies) (Amendment) Order 1988

Made

13th July 1988

Laid before Parliament

22nd July 1988

Coming into force

The Secretary of State for the Environment, as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 56(4) of the Housing Act 1980(1), and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Assured Tenancies (Approved Bodies) (Amendment) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 12th August 1988.

2. The Assured Tenancies (Approved Bodies) (No. 2) Order 1988(2) is hereby amended by the substitution, for the 33rd item in the list set out in the Schedule thereto, of the following:-

"33. Hanover Housing Association.".

Signed by authority of the Secretary of State

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State,

Department of the Environment

13th July 1988

Peter Walker

Secretary of State for Wales

13th July 1988

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Assured tenancies are tenancies which, but for section 56 of the Housing Act 1980, would have been protected tenancies or housing association tenancies under the Rent Act 1977 (c. 42), and which meet certain other conditions. Such tenancies are subject to Part II of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 (c. 56), as modified by Schedule 5 to the 1980 Act. They can only be granted by bodies approved under section 56 of the 1980 Act.

The Assured Tenancies (Approved Bodies) (No.2) Order 1988 contained a list of 58 bodies to which approval was given. The name of the 33rd body was inadvertently set out incorrectly and this Order substitutes the correct name.
