Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations rectify errors in the drafting of the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Specified Periods) (Wales) Regulations 1988. Part II of the Schedule to those regulations sets out the minimum and maximum periods for which certain authorities without education functions may invite offers to carry out work in respect of activities which must be open to competition under Part I of the Local Government Act 1988. These Regulations substitute a new Part II of the Schedule to the principal regulations, the effect of which is to amend the maximum periods in respect of the activities of building cleaning and ground maintenance from 4 years to 5 years in each case.

These Regulations and the principal regulations come into force on 9th September 1988.
