In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 47 of the Prison Act 1952(1), I hereby make the following Rules:
1.-(1) These Rules may be cited as the Prison (Amendment) Rules 1988 and shall come into force on 1st March 1988.
(2) The Prison (Amendment No. 2) Rules 1987(2) are hereby revoked.
2. The Prison Rules 1964(3) shall be amended as follows-
(a)in rule 21(4) paragraph (1) and the words "convicted" in paragraphs (2) and (3) shall be deleted;
(b)in rule 22(1) the words ", or under Rule 21(1) of these Rules" shall be deleted; and
(c)in rules 50(g) and 51(4)(g)(5) the words
"any of the following-
(i)the right to be supplied with food and drink under Rule 21(1) of these Rules; and
(ii)" (ii)"
shall be deleted.

These Rules amend the Prison Rules 1964 to remove the right of an unconvicted prisoner to be supplied with food at his own expense or that of his friends. They revoke the Prison (Amendment No. 2) Rules 1987, which they reproduce, save that rule 2(d), which was included in the 1987 Rules in error, has been omitted.
1952 c. 52; section 47 was amended by Schedule 4 to the Criminal Justice Act 1961 (c. 39), section 66(5) of the Criminal Justice Act 1967 (c. 80), paragraph 33 of Schedule 8 to the Courts Act 1971 (c. 23) and paragraph 7 of Schedule 14 to the Criminal Justice Act 1982 (c. 48). Section 47 of the 1952 Act was also affected by an amendment to section 52(2) of that Act by section 66(4) of the Criminal Justice Act 1967.
