The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 21 and 273 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1972(1)and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Town and Country Planning (General Development) (Scotland) Amendment Order 1988, and the Town and Country Planning (General Development) (Scotland) Orders 1981 to 1985(2)and this Order may be cited together as the Town and Country Planning (General Development) (Scotland) Orders 1981 to 1988.
(2) This Order shall come into force on 1st July 1988.
2. The Town and Country Planning (General Development) (Scotland) Order 1981 is hereby amended as follows:-
(a)in article 2(1), the following definition shall be added:-
""slurry" means animal faeces and urine (whether or not water has been added);";
(b)in Part I of Schedule 1, in Class V (Agricultural buildings, works and uses), at the end of paragraph (1) in column (1) there shall be added-
"(c)any buildings exceeding 465 square metres in area for housing pigs, poultry, rabbits or animals bred for their skin or fur, and any associated structure or excavation for storing slurry or sewage sludge.".

This Order amends Class V (Agricultural buildings, works and uses) of Schedule 1 to the Town and Country Planning (General Development) (Scotland) Order 1981 to remove from permitted development (a) buildings of more than 465 square metres which are used to house pigs, poultry, rabbits or animals bred for their skin or fur, and (b) any structures associated with such buildings and used for storing slurry or sewage sludge. A definition of "slurry" is inserted into article 2 of the 1981 Order.
