HIGHWAYS, ENGLAND AND WALES

The A6 London-�Inverness Trunk Road (Kettering Southern Bypass Slip Roads) Order 1989

Coming into force

10th August 1989

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 41 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:

1. For the purpose of connecting the trunk road with other highways so as to effect junctions at the places stated in the Schedule to this Order, the Secretary of State is authorised to construct along the routes described in that Schedule new highways. Those new highways shall become trunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into force.

2. The centre line of each of the new highways is indicated by a heavy black line on the deposited plan.

3. The Secretary of State directs as respects any part of a highway which crosses the route of any of the new highways that-�

(a)where the highway is a highway maintainable at the public expense by a local highway authority, the part in question shall be maintained by that authority; and

(b)where the highway is not a highway so maintainable and is not maintainable under a special enactment or by reason of tenure, enclosure or prescription, the Secretary of State shall be under no duty to maintain the part in question,

until in either case a date to be specified in a notice given by the Secretary of State to the highway authority for that highway. The date specified will not be later than the date on which the relevant route is opened for the purpose of through traffic.

4. In this Order-�

(i)"the deposited plan"

means the plan folio numbered HA10/2E/264, marked "The A6 London-�Inverness Trunk Road (Kettering Southern Bypass Slip Roads) Order 1989", containing one map, signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;

(ii)"the trunk road"

means the trunk road to be provided in pursuance of article 1 of the A6 London-�Inverness Trunk Road (Kettering Southern Bypass) Order 1987(3), and in pursuance of article 1(a) of the A604 Catthorpe-�Harwich Trunk Road (Kettering to Thrapston Section and Slip Roads) Order 1987(4);

(iii)"the new highways"

means the highways mentioned in article 1 of this Order, and "a new highway" means one of these highways.

5. This Order shall come into force on 10th August 1989 and may be cited as the A6 London-�Inverness Trunk Road (Kettering Southern Bypass Slip Roads) Order 1989.

THE SCHEDULEROUTES OF THE NEW HIGHWAYS

The routes of the new highways are the following:

(1) Trunk Road roundabout north-west of Thorne Lane on the Rothwell Road (A6)

A route forming a roundabout about 498 metres in length, the centre of which is a point 453 metres north-west of Thorpe Lane (the new highway being given the reference number 1 on the deposited plan).

(2) Junction with the proposed new roundabout north-west of Thorpe Lane on the Rothwell Road (A6)

Four routes to connect the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the trunk road with the roundabout to be constructed on the route described in paragraph (1) of this Schedule (the new highways along these routes being given the reference numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the deposited plan).

(3) Trunk Road Roundabout south-west of Kettering on the Northampton Road (A43)

A route forming a roundabout about 441 metres in length, the centre of which is a point 687 metres south-west of the junction between the A43 Northampton Road and Westhill Drive, Kettering (the new highway being given the reference number 6 on the deposited plan).

(4) Junction with the proposed new roundabout south-west of Kettering on the Northampton Road (A43)

Four routes to connect the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the trunk road with the roundabout to be constructed on the route described in paragraph (3) of this Schedule (the new highways along these routes being given the reference numbers 7, 8, 9 and 10 on the deposited plan).

(5) Junction with the Wellingborough Road (A509) South of Kettering

Four routes to connect the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the trunk road with Wellingborough Road (A509) by means of a roundabout (as proposed to be constructed) at Pytchley Cottages, Pytchley (the new highways along these routes being given the reference numbers 11, 12, 13 and 14 on the deposited plan.

(6) Trunk Road roundabout south of Woodland Avenue, Barton Seagrave on the Kettering Road (A6)

A route forming a roundabout about 421 metres in length, the centre of which is a point 450 metres south of the junction between Woodland Avenue, Barton Seagrave and the Kettering Road (A6) (the new highway being given the reference number 15 on the deposited plan).

(7) Junction with the proposed new roundabout south of Woodland Avenue, Barton Seagrave on the Kettering Road (A6)

Four routes to connect the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the trunk road with the roundabout to be constructed on the route described in paragraph (6) of this Schedule (the new highways along these routes being given the reference numbers 16, 17, 18 and 19 on the deposited plan).
