1. The new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to construct along-
(a)the route described in Schedule 1 to this Order (the highway along this route being in this Order referred to as "the main new trunk road"), and
(b)the routes described in Schedule 2 to this Order which connect the main new trunk road with other highways at the places stated in that Schedule (the highways along these routes being in this Order referred to as "the slip roads"),
shall become trunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into force.
2. The centre line of each of the new trunk roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the deposited plan.
3. The Secretary of State directs as respects any part of a highway which crosses the route of a new trunk road that-
(a)where the highway is a highway maintainable at the public expense by a local highway authority, the part in question shall be maintained by that authority, and
(b)where the highway is not a highway so maintainable and is not maintainable under a special enactment or by reason of tenure, enclosure or prescription, the Secretary of State shall be under no duty to maintain the part in question,
until, in either case, a date to be specified in a notice given by the Secretary of State to the highway authority for that highway. The date specified will not be later than the date on which the relevant route is opened for the purpose of through traffic.
4. The Secretary of State is authorised to construct the bridges specified in Schedules 3 and 4 of this Order as part of the main new trunk road.
5. In this Order-
(1) Subject as mentioned in Schedule 1 to this Order, all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) (i) "the deposited plan" | means the plan contained in the folio numbered HA10/EM47, marked "The (A6) London-�Inverness Trunk Road (Quorn-�Mountsorrel Byass and Slip Roads) Order 1989", signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY; |
(ii)"the new trunk roads" | means the main new trunk road and the slip roads and "a new trunk road" means one of those highways; and |
(iii)"the Trunk Road" | means the (A6) London-�Inverness Trunk Road. |
6. This Order shall come into force on 18th August 1989 and may be cited as the (A6) London-�Inverness Trunk Road (Quorn-�Mountsorrel Bypass and Slip Roads) Order 1989.

The route of the main new trunk road is in the Parishes of Quorndon, Barrow Upon Soar, Mountsorrel, Rothley and Wanlip in the Borough of Charnwood in the County of Leicestershire, about 7.76 kilometres in length, starting at a point on the Trunk Road measured in a straight line on a horizontal plane 595 metres north-west of the centre line of its junction with Woodhouse Road (B591) and 35 metres east of the centre line of the Trunk Road (which point is marked "A" on the deposited plan). The route then curves in an easterly direction to form junctions with Barrow Road (B6046), and a south-easterly direction to form a junction with Betty Henser's Lane, Sileby Road (B674), the Trunk Road (near Mountsorrel) and Cossington Lane (B5328). The route then curves southwards to terminate at a point on the Trunk Road (which point is marked "B" on the deposited plan) measured in a straight line on a horizontal plane 150 metres south of the centre line of the junction of the Trunk Road and the access track leading to Broadnook Spinney.
1. A roundabout (numbered 1 on the deposited plan) approximately 70 metres in circumference measured along its centre line, the central point whereof is 595 metres north-west of the junction of the Trunk Road with Woodhouse Road (B591) and 540 metres south-west of the south-west corner of Quorn Lodge Buildings.
2. Two routes to connect the north-westbound carriageway and the south-eastbound carriageway of the main new trunk road with two roundabouts to be constructed as part of Barrow Road (B675/B6046) at Quorn (the new trunk roads along these routes being respectively given the reference numbers 2 and 3 on the deposited plan).
3. A roundabout (numbered 4 on the deposited plan) approximately 60 metres in circumference measured along its centre line, the central point whereof is 615 metres north-east of the junction of the Trunk Road with Betty Henser's Lane.
4. Two routes to connect the north-westbound carriageway and the south-eastbound carriageway of the main new trunk road with Sileby Road (B674) at Mountsorrel (the new trunk roads along these routes being respectively given the reference numbers 5 and 6 on the deposited plan).
5. Four routes to connect the north-westbound carriageway and the south-eastbound carriageway of the main new trunk road with two roundabouts to be constructed as part of the Trunk Road near Mountsorrel (the new trunk roads along these routes being respectively given the reference numbers 7, 8, 9 and 10 on the deposited plan).
6. A route (numbered 11 on the deposited plan) to connect Cossington Lane (B5328) to the south-eastbound carriageway of the main new trunk road near Rothley.
