HIGHWAYS, ENGLAND AND WALES

The London-�Edinburgh-�Thurso Trunk Road (Bramham Moor to Grange Moor and Slip Roads) Order 1989

Coming into force

15th September 1989

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 41 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:

1. The new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to construct-�

(a)along the route described in Schedule 1 to this Order (the highway along this route being in this Order referred to as "the main new trunk road"),

(b)along the routes described in Schedule 2 to this Order which connect the Trunk Road with other highways at the places therein stated (the highways along these routes being in this Order referred to as "the A1 slip roads"),

(c)along the routes described in Schedule 3 to this Order which connect the main new trunk road with other highways at the places stated in that Schedule (the highways along these routes being in this Order referred to as "the slip roads"),

shall become trunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into force.

2. The centre lines of the said new trunk roads are indicated by heavy black lines on the deposited plan.

3. The Secretary of State directs as respects any part of a highway which crosses the route of any of the said new trunk roads that-�

(a)where the highway is a highway maintainable at the public expense by a local highway authority, the part in question shall be maintained by that authority, and

(b)where the highway is not a highway so maintainable and is not maintainable under a special enactment or by reason of tenure, enclosure or prescription, the Secretary of State shall be under no duty to maintain the part in question,

until, in either case, a date to be specified in a notice given by the Secretary of State to the highway authority for that highway. The date specified will not be later than the date on which the relevant route is opened for the purposes of through traffic.

4. In this Order:-�

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highways;

(2)

(i) "the deposited plan"

means the plan numbered HA 10/CNE93, marked "The London-�Edinburgh-�Thurso Trunk Road (Bramham Moor to Grange Moor and Slip Roads) Order 1989.', signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY.

(ii) "the Trunk Road"

means the A1 London-�Edinburgh-�Thurso Trunk Road.

5. This Order shall come into force on 15th September 1989 and may be cited as the London-�Edinburgh-�Thurso Trunk Road (Bramham Moor to Grange Moor and Slip Roads) Order 1989.

SCHEDULE 1ROUTE OF THE MAIN NEW TRUNK ROAD

The route of the main new trunk road is a route at Bramham in the Metropolitan District of Leeds in the County of West Yorkshire about 1210 metres in length starting at a point 71 metres north of Bowcliffe Hall Bridge on the Trunk Road (marked "A' on the site plan) then going in a north westerly direction to cross Tenter Hill (C13) then going northwards to rejoin the Trunk Road at a point 60 metres north of Farfield House (marked "B' on the site plan).

SCHEDULE 2ROUTE OF THE A1 SLIP ROADS

The routes of the A1 Slip Roads are routes in the Metropolitan District of Leeds in the County of West Yorkshire as follows:-�

(1) Junction with Aberford Road (C166)

A route to connect Aberford Road (C166) with the southbound carriageway of the Trunk Road (the new trunk road along this route being given the reference number 1 on the site plan).

(2) Junction with Wattlesyke (A659)

Two routes to connect the northbound carriageway of the Trunk Road with Wattlesyke (A659) as proposed to be improved (the new trunk roads along these routes being given the reference numbers 5 and 6 on the site plan).

SCHEDULE 3ROUTES OF THE SLIP ROADS

The routes of the slip roads are routes in the Metropolitan District of Leeds in the County of West Yorkshire as follows:-�

(1) Junction with Tenter Hill (C13)

Two routes to connect the northbound carriageway of the main new trunk road with the improved Tenter Hill (C13) (the new trunk roads along these routes being given the reference numbers 2 and 3 on the site plan).

(2) Junction with New Highway at Bramham

A route to connect the southbound carriageway of the main new trunk road with a junction to be constructed as part of a new road linking the same with Wetherby Road (C13) and Tenter Hill (C13) (the new trunk road along this route being given the reference number 4 on the site plan).
