The A6 Trunk Road Hazel Grove (Detrunking) Order 1989

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:

1. The length of trunk road described in the Schedule to this order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road as from the date on which the new trunk road is open for through traffic.

2. In this order:-(1) the measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway.

(2)(i)"the deposited plan"means the plan numbered HA/10/1/CNW/223 marked "The A6 Trunk Road Hazel Grove (Detrunking) Order 1989" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House,43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;
(ii)"the new trunk road"means the special road to be provided by the Secretary of State in pursuance of the A6(M) Motorway (Stockport North-South Bypass) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1989(3);
(iii)"principal road"as a classification for a highway means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State.

3. This Order shall come into force on 22nd September 1989 and may be cited as the A6 Trunk Road Hazel Grove (Detrunking) Order 1989.

SCHEDULELENGTH OF TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

The length of trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is about 3·18 kilometres of the A6 trunk road in the County of Greater Manchester from its junction with Bramhall Moor Lane at Hazel Grove to a point approximately 45 metres east of its junction with Norbury Hollow Road at Hazel Grove, in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport.

Note: Unit of length: 1 kilometre = 0·621 of a mile approx.
