ROAD TRAFFIC

The A12 Trunk Road (Eastern Avenue, Redbridge) (Prescribed Routes) Order 1990

The Secretary of State for Transport in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of, and Part IV of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1) ("the 1984 Act") and of all other enabling powers, and after consulting the Secretary of State for the Home Department pursuant to section 7(6) of the 1984 Act, hereby makes the following Order:-�

1. This Order may be cited as the A12 Trunk Road (Eastern Avenue, Redbridge) (Prescribed Routes) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 6th August 1990.

2. In this Order-�

"central reservation" means that part of Eastern Avenue which separates its two carriageways for the safety and guidance of vehicles using that road;

"Eastern Avenue" means the length of the London-Great Yarmouth Trunk Road (A12) in the London Borough of Redbridge known as Eastern Avenue;

"eastern traffic island" means the island site in the southern carriageway of Eastern Avenue which is parallel to, and 3.5 metres from, the central reservation and extends to the junction from a point 13 metres east of the junction;

"the junction" means the junction of Eastern Avenue with the roads known as Horns Road and Ley Street at Ilford in Essex;

"northern traffic island" means the triangular island site in the northern carriageway of Eastern Avenue on the western side of its junction with Horns Road;

"southern traffic island" means the triangular island site in the southern carriageway of Eastern Avenue on the eastern side of its junction with Ley Street; and

"western traffic island" means the island site in the northern carriageway of Eastern Avenue which is parallel to, and 3.5 metres from, the central reservation and extends to the junction from a point 12 metres west of the junction.

3. Articles 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of the Trunk Road (Eastern Avenue, Redbridge) (Prescribed Routes) (No. 2) Order 1973(2) and the Trunk Road (Eastern Avenue, Redbridge) (Prescribed Routes) (No. 2) Order 1973 Variation Order 1975(3) are hereby revoked.

4. No person shall cause any vehicle entering Eastern Avenue from Horns Road to turn right.

5. A person causing or permitting a vehicle to pass to the left of the northern traffic island shall cause that vehicle to turn left into Horns Road and in no other direction.

6. A person causing or permitting a vehicle to pass to the right of the western traffic island shall cause that vehicle to turn right into Ley Street and in no other direction.

7. A person causing or permitting a vehicle to pass to the left of the southern traffic island shall cause that vehicle to turn left into Ley Street and in no other direction.

8. A person causing or permitting a vehicle to pass to the right of the eastern traffic island shall cause that vehicle to turn right into Horns Road and in no other direction.

9. Save as provided in articles 5, 6, 7 and 8 of this Order, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle proceeding in Eastern Avenue to make a right turn or a left turn at the junction.

10. No person shall cause or permit any vehicle proceeding in Eastern Avenue to make a U-turn at the junction in order to proceed in the opposite direction.

11. Nothing in this Order shall apply-�

(a)to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a constable in uniform or of a traffic warden; or

(b)to a vehicle being used for police, ambulance or fire brigade purposes.
