Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the "Zebra" Pedestrian Crossings Regulations 1971. They make provision to enable "Belisha beacons" to be fitted with backing boards designed to improve the conspicuity of the beacon and shields designed to prevent or reduce light shining from the globe into adjacent properties. Such boards or shields must be firmly secured, must not prevent drivers from seeing the beacon and must not constitute a danger to road users.
