The Secretary of State for Social Security, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 5(3) of the Child Benefit Act 1975(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order, which may be cited as the Child Benefit (Different Rates) Order 1991, shall come into force on 8th April 1991.
2. The day on which child benefit under the Child Benefit Act 1975 shall become payable at the rate specified in paragraph (1)(a) of regulation 2 of the Child Benefit and Social Security (Fixing and Adjustment of Rates) Regulations 1976(2) is 8th April 1991.

This Order provides that 8th April 1991 shall be the date on which child benefit under the Child Benefit Act 1975 is to be payable at the rate specified in regulation 2(1)(a) of the Child Benefit and Social Security (Fixing and Adjustment of Rates) Regulations 1976 in respect of an only, elder or eldest child.
