1. The Secretary of State is authorised to provide for the use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980-�
(a)a special road along the route described in Schedule 1 to this Scheme (this special road being in this Scheme referred to as "the motorway"), and
(b)a special road along each of the routes described in Schedule 2 to this Scheme for the purposes of connecting the motorway with other highways at the places stated in that Schedule (these special roads being in this Scheme referred to as "the connecting roads").
2. The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the deposited plan.
3. The special roads shall become trunk roads on the date when this Scheme comes into force.
4. In this Scheme-�
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) | (i)"the deposited plan" | means the plan numbered HA16/1EC/58 marked "The A1(M) Motorway (Alconbury to Fletton Parkway Section) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1993", containing 3 plans bound together and numbered 1, 2 and 3, signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY; |
(ii)"the special roads" | means the motorway and the connecting roads; | |
(iii)"the trunk road" | means the A1 Trunk Road as proposed to be improved by the Secretary of State. |
(3) a reference to "the Side Roads Order" is a reference to the A1 Trunk Road (Alconbury to Fletton Parkway Improvement) Side Roads Order 1993.
5. This Scheme shall come into force on 14th December 1993 and may be cited as the A1(M) Motorway (Alconbury to Fletton Parkway Section) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1993.

A route approximately 21 kilometres in length starting at a point on the trunk road 350 metres south of its existing junction with the Great North Road at Alconbury in the District of Huntingdon in the County of Cambridgeshire following the route of the trunk road to a point 740 metres north of the centre of the existing Norman Cross roundabout, continuing in a generally northerly direction slightly to the west of the trunk road to a point 1130 metres north of the centre of the existing Norman Cross roundabout, then following the route of the trunk road and ending at a point 280 metres north of the centre of the existing Fletton Parkway Interchange.
1. Junction with Green End Road and the Great North Road at Sawtry
(a)A route from the northbound carriageway of the motorway to a roundabout to be constructed pursuant to the Side Roads Order (to connect with Green End Road and other highways to be constructed or improved pursuant to the Side Roads Order) and a route to that carriageway from that roundabout. The special roads along these routes are, respectively, given the reference numbers 1 and 2 on the plan numbered 1 of the deposited plan.
(b)A route to the southbound carriageway of the motorway from a roundabout, south of St Andrews Bridge, to be constructed pursuant to the Side Roads Order (to connect with the Great North Road and other highways to be constructed or improved pursuant to the Side Roads Order), the special road along this route being given the reference number 3 on the plan numbered 1 of the deposited plan.
(c)A route from the southbound carriageway of the motorway to a roundabout, south of St Andrews Bridge, to be constructed pursuant to the Side Roads Order (to connect with the Great North Road and other highways to be constructed or improved pursuant to the Side Roads Order), the special road along this route being given the reference number 4 on the plan numbered 2 of the deposited plan.
2. Junction with the A15 and other roads at Norman Cross
Four routes to connect the northbound and southbound carriageways of the motorway with a roundabout to be constructed pursuant to the Side Roads Order (to connect with the A15 and other highways to be constructed or improved pursuant to the Side Roads Order), the special roads along these routes being given the reference numbers 5, 6, 7 and 8 on the plan numbered 3 of the deposited plan.
3. Junction with the A1139 Fletton Parkway
(a)A route from the northbound carriageway of the motorway to the A1139 Fletton Parkway (to be improved pursuant to the Side Roads Order) and a route from that connecting road to the Fletton Parkway Interchange, the special roads along these routes being, respectively, given the reference numbers 9 and 10 on the plan numbered 3 of the deposited plan.
(b)A route to the southbound carriageway of the motorway from the Fletton Parkway Interchange, the special road along this route being given the reference number 11 on the plan numbered 3 of the deposited plan.
