The A140 Trunk Road (Scole - Dickleburgh Improvement) Detrunking Order 1993

Coming into force

12th March 1993

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:-

1. From the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the Norfolk County Council and the Suffolk County Council that the new trunk road is open for traffic, the lengths of the trunk road described in the Schedules to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road, and-

(a)each of the lengths described in Schedule 1 to this Order shall be classified as a classified road, and

(b)the length described in Schedule 2 to this Order shall be classified as a principal road.

2. In this Order:-

(i)"classified road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;

(ii)"the plan" means the plan numbered HA10/2E/345 marked, "The A140 Trunk Road (Scole - Dickleburgh Improvement) Detrunking Order 1993" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;

(iii)"principal road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to high-ways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State;

(iv)"the trunk road" means the A140 Trunk Road.

3. This Order shall come into force on 12th March 1993 and may be cited as the A140 Trunk Road (Scole - Dickleburgh Improvement) Detrunking Order 1993.

SCHEDULE 1LENGTHS OF TRUNK ROAD TO BECOME CLASSIFIED ROAD

The trunk road between-

(1) a point 110 metres north of its junction with Old Bury Road (C564) and its junction with The Street (A143), and

(2) its junction with Bungay Road (A143) and a point 10 metres south of its junction with the Ipswich Road (C592).

SCHEDULE 2LENGTH OF TRUNK ROAD TO BECOME PRINCIPAL ROAD

The trunk road between its junction with The Street (A143) and its junction with Bungay Road (A143).
