The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of powers conferred on her by section 79A of, and paragraph 3(2) and (3) of Schedule 12 to, the National Health Service Act 1977(1) and of all other powers enabling her in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:-
1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (Dental Charges) Amendment Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 1st April 1993.
(2) In these Regulations, "the principal Regulations" means the National Health Service (Dental Charges) Regulations 1989(2).
2. In regulation 4 of the principal Regulations (calculation of charges)-
(a)in paragraph (1), for "75%" there is substituted "80%"; and
(b)in paragraph (5), for "£225" in both places where it occurs there is substituted "£250".
3. In Schedule 1 to the principal Regulations (calculation of charge for the supply of appliance on referral), in paragraph 2(b)(ii), for "75%" there is substituted "80%".
4. The National Health Service (Dental Charges) Amendment Regulations 1992(3)are hereby revoked.
5. Where, on or after 1st April 1993, appliances are supplied, or other general dental services are provided, in pursuance of a contract or arrangement for the provision of general dental services made before that date, the provisions of regulation 4(1) and (5) of and of Schedule 1 to the principal Regulations shall have effect in respect of that supply or other provision as if these Regulations had not come into force.

These Regulations further amend the National Health Service (Dental Charges) Regulations 1989 to increase the proportion of the charge for dental treatment and appliances which is payable by a patient from 75% to 80%, and to increase the prescribed maximum charge payable by the patient from £225 to £250, where the contract or arrangement leading to the provision of such treatment or appliances is made on or after 1st April 1993. The regulations providing for the last increase in the maximum charge are revoked.
