The Maximum Number of Judges Order 1993

Present,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas a draft of the following Order was laid before Parliament, and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 2(4) of the Supreme Court Act 1981(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Number of Judges Order 1993 and shall come into force on 11th March 1993.

2. Section 2(1) of the Supreme Court Act 1981(2), prescribing the maximum number of ordinary judges of the Court of Appeal, shall be amended so as further to increase the maximum number of those judges to 29.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the Supreme Court Act 1981 by increasing the maximum number of ordinary judges of the Court of Appeal from 28 to 29.
