1. This Scheme may be cited as the M1-A1 Link (Belle Isle to Bramham Crossroads Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1994 and shall come into force on 29th April 1994.
2. In this Scheme:
(a)all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(b)except in article 3 of this scheme, a reference to a numbered Schedule or plan is a reference to the Schedule to this Scheme or to the plan, so numbered;
(c)(i)"connecting road" means a special road along the routes described in Schedule 3;
(ii)"the Motorway" means a special road along the routes described in Schedule 1;
(iii)"plan" means one of the plans numbered 1 to 3 and contained in the plan folio numbered HA16/YHCPD10 marked "The M1-A1 Link (Belle Isle to Bramham Crossroads Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1994", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;
(iv)"the special roads" means the Motorway, each link road, each connecting road and the A1(M);
(v)"link road" means a special road along a route described in Schedule 2;
(vi)"the A1" means the A1 Trunk Road; and
(vii)"the A1(M)" means the length of the A1 described in Schedule 4.
3. The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.
4. The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.
5. Each of the special roads described in Schedules 1, 2 and 3 shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.
6. The Secretary of State is authorised to construct the bridge specified in Schedule 5 as part of the Motorway and in connection with the construction of that bridge to divert the part of the navigable watercourse specified in that schedule and the towing path adjacent to that part as shown in that schedule.

All the routes of the new motorway are in the City of Leeds and in the District of Selby all in the Counties of West and North Yorkshire.
1. A route about 1450 metres in length starting from a point on the northbound carriageway of the M1 Motorway 700 metres north of the Sharp Lane overbridge (marked -�A' on plan 1) then going in a generally north-easterly direction to pass under the M1 Motorway to a point 30 metres south-east of Wakefield Road (marked -�C' on plan 1).
2. A route about 1550 metres in length starting at a point on the southbound carriageway of the M1 Motorway (marked -�B' on plan 1) 520 metres north of the Sharp Lane overbridge then going in a generally north-easterly direction to a point 30 metres south-east of Wakefield Road (marked -�C' on plan 1).
3. A route about 15.05 kilometres in length starting from a point 30 metres south-east of Wakefield Road (marked -�C' on plan 1) then going in a generally north-easterly direction to Austhorpe then in a generally easterly direction to a point on the southbound carriageway of the A1 430 metres south of its junction with Lotherton Lane (marked -�D' on plan 3).
4. A route about 1300 metres in length starting from a point on the A1 130 metres south of its junction with Occupation Lane (marked -�E' on plan 3) then going in a generally northerly direction to a point on the A1 220 metres south of its junction with Spen Common Lane (marked -�F' on plan 3).
A route about 1400 metres in length starting from a point on the northbound carriageway of the A1 220 metres north of its junction with Roman Road (marked -�G' on plan 3) then going in a generally northerly then easterly direction to a point on the A64 Trunk Road 360 metres east of the A1 overbridge (marked -�H' on plan 3). A route about 850 metres in length starting from a point on the A64 Trunk Road at a point 560 metres east of the A1 overbridge (marked -�I' on plan 3) then going in a generally westerly then southerly direction to a point on the southbound carriageway of the A1 860 metres north of its junction with Roman Road at Aberford (marked -�J' on plan 3) all in the District of Selby in the County of North Yorkshire.
The routes of the connecting roads are in the City of Leeds and the District of Selby in the Counties of West and North Yorkshire.
(1) Junction with Pontefract Road (A639 and B6481) Four routes to connect the Motorway with Pontefract Road (A639) as proposed to be improved (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 on plan 1).
(2) Junction with Selby Road (A63T) Four routes to connect the Motorway with Selby Road (A63) as proposed to be improved (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 5, 6, 7, 8 and 18 on plan 1).
(3) Junction with Aberford Road (A642) Four routes to connect the Motorway with Aberford Road (A642) as proposed to be improved (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 9, 10, 11 and 12 on plan 2).
(4) Junction with the Leeds Road (A64T) Four routes to connect the Motorway with the Leeds Road (A64) as proposed to be improved (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 13, 14, 15 and 16 on plan 3).
(5) Junction with A1 Southbound Carriageway One route to connect the Motorway with the A1 Trunk Road southbound carriageway of the A1 (the special road along the route being respectively given the number 17 on plan 3).
A route 6.17 kilometres in length which follows the route of the A1, from a point 30 metres north of its junction with Occupation Lane (marked -�J' on plan 3) then generally southwards to a point 520 metres south of its junction with the Old Great North Road (marked -�K' on plan 3) all in the City of Leeds, and in the District of Selby in the Counties of West and North Yorkshire.
Specifications of the viaduct over the Aire and Calder Navigation and the River Aire to the south of the City of Leeds Metropolitan District in the County of West Yorkshire. Points of Commencement and Termination From a point on the south bank the Aire and Calder Navigation approximately 120m north-east of the eastern corner of field no OS 4088 (reference point B on plan B). To a point on the north bank of the River Aire approximately 360 m north-east of the eastern corner of field no. OS 4088 reference point B on plan B. Length Total length between abutments not less than 251 metres. 1 No. fixed span of not less than 41 metres 1 No. fixed span of not less than 76 metres (navigation span) 1 No. fixed span of not less than 28 metres 1 No. fixed span of not less than 69 metres (River Aire span) 1 No. fixed span of not less than 37 metres Headroom 13.5 metres minimum headroom above statutory water level above canal fairway. Realignment of the Canal This would have the effect of diverting the southern bank of the canal southwards by a maximum distance of 6 metres and the northern bank of the canal southwards by a maximum distance of 6 metres. The existing waterway width of 35 metres would be increased to a minimum of 40 metres. Construction Composite steel girder and reinforced concrete deck on reinforced concrete piers.
