The Merchant Shipping Act 1988 (Commencement No. 4) Order 1994

28th April 1994

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on him bysection 58(2) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1988(1), hereby makes the following Order:-

1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping Act 1988 (CommencementNo. 4) Order 1994.

2. The provisions of the Merchant Shipping Act 1988 specified in the first column of the Schedule to this Order (which relate to the matters specified in the second column of that Schedule) shall come into force on 1st June 1994.

SCHEDULEPROVISIONS COMING INTO FORCE ON 1st june 1994

Provisions of Merchant Shipping Act 1988Subject matter of provisions
Section 48, to the extent that it relates to the provisions of Schedule 5 specified below.Miscellaneous amendments of the Merchant Shipping Acts.
Section 57, subsection (5) to the extent that it relates to the provisions of Schedule 7 specified below.Repeals.
In Schedule 5, paragraph 7 of the amendments of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970(2).Omission of section 89 (return of deserters under reciprocal arrangements).
In Schedule 7, the repeal of sections 73 and 89 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970, and therepeal in section 95(1) of that Act.Repeals.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 1st June 1994 provisions of the Merchant Shipping Act 1988 which repeal sections 73 and 89 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970 (which are obsolete).
