The Crown Office Fees Order 1994

Coming into force

28th March 1994

The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 9 of the Great Seal (Offices) Act 1874(1), and with the concurrence of the Treasury, hereby makes the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Crown Office Fees Order 1994 and shall come into force on 28th March 1994.

2. The following fees shall be taken in the Office of the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery-

(1) Letters Patent under the Great Seal-

Heralds£120
Queen's Counsel (England and Wales)£150
Charter of Incorporation or Supplemental Charter (England and Wales)£180
Grant of Title of City£1250
Grant of Title of Lord Mayor£1250

(2) Writ of Summons on the Determination of an abeyance of a Barony

£120.

3. The Crown Office Fees Order 1990(2) is hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order revokes and replaces the Crown Office Fees Order 1990. It alters the fees to be taken in the Office of the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery, as follows-

(1) for Letters Patent under the Great Seal-

(a)for Heralds, the fee is increased from £60 to £120;

(b)for Queen's Counsel, the fee is reduced from £380 to £150;

(c)for Charter of Incorporation or Supplemental Charter, the fee is reduced from £350 to £180;

(d)for Grant of Title of City, the fee is increased from £800 to £1250;

(e)for Grant of Title of Lord Mayor, the fee is increased from £800 to £1250;

(2) for Writ of Summons on the Determination of an abeyance of a Barony, the fee is reduced from £350 to £120.

Provision is no longer made for the filing of a Memorial for appointment as a Welsh District Notary since this office was abolished with effect from 1st July 1991 by section 57 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 (c. 41).
