The Secretary of State for Transport, on the application of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 1 of the Transport and Works Act 1992(1), hereby makes the following Order:-
1. This Order ay be cited as the Greater Manchester (Light Rapid Transit System) (Modification) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 28th March 1994.
2. Notwithstanding that the bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal forming part of Work No.1 of the Greater Manchester (Light Rapid Transit System) Act 1990(2) is described in section 4 of that Act and referred to in the substituted section deposited for the purposes of that Act as having an opening span, it may be made and maintained with a fixed span.

This Order amends the Greater Manchester (Light Rapid Transit System) Act 1990 to enable the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive to construct the tramroad described as Work No.1 in that Act with a bridge having a fixed rather than an opening span over the Manchester Ship Canal.
The applicants for the Order are the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive.
