The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 7(8) of the Merchant Shipping (Registration, etc.) Act 1993(1) and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Modification of Enactments) (Bareboat Charter Ships) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 21st March 1994.
(2) In this Order "bareboat charter ship" means a ship registered pursuant to section 7 of the Merchant Shipping (Registration, etc.) Act 1993.
2. Subject to article 3, in the Merchant Shipping Acts 1894 to 1993 and in any other enactment applicable to British ships or ships registered under those Acts any reference, (however phrased) to the owner of a British ship, a United Kingdom ship or a ship registered in the United Kingdom, shall mean, in relation to a bareboat charter ship, the person registered as the charterer.
3. Article 2 shall not apply to section 2 of the Merchant Shipping (Registration, etc.) Act 1993.

This Order provides that, in relation to ships which are registered as bareboat charter ships under section 7 of the Merchant Shipping (Registration, etc.) Act 1993, references, however phrased, in the Merchant Shipping Acts and other enactments to the "owner" (whether of a British or of a United Kingdom ship, or of a ship registered in the United Kingdom) mean the registered charterer.
