Whereas the Easington District Council, acting pursuant to Schedule 32 to the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980(1) ("the Schedule"), on 1st September 1995 by resolution adopted the following enterprise zone schemes-
the East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 1 (Bracken Hill) Scheme;
the East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 2 (Peterlee North West Industrial Estate) Scheme;
the East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 3 (Peterlee South West Industrial Estate) Scheme;
the East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 4 (Seaham Grange) Scheme;
the East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 5 (Fox Cover) Scheme; and
the East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 6 (Dawdon) Scheme-
and on 8th September published an advertisement complying with paragraph 3 of the Schedule in the Northern Echo (a newspaper circulating in the area to which the schemes relate) and in The London Gazette;
And whereas a period of six weeks has expired since the first publication of that advertisement, and no application has been made to the High Court under paragraph 4 of the Schedule in respect of any of the schemes;
Now therefore the Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by paragraph 5 of the Schedule and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and with the consent of the Treasury, hereby makes the following Order:-
1. This Order may be cited as the East Durham Enterprise Zones (Designation) Order 1995 and shall come into force on 29th November 1995.
2. In this Order:
"the council" means the Easington District Council;
"the maps" means the six maps prepared in duplicate, numbered, marked "Maps referred to in the East Durham Enterprise Zones (Designation) Order 1995", and signed by an Under Secretary in the Department of the Environment, one set of which has been deposited and is available for inspection at the principal offices of the council and the other at the offices of the Secretary of State for the Environment, and any reference to a map by number is a reference to the map so numbered;
and any reference to boundaries shown on a map is a reference to boundaries which are represented by the outside edge of a black line edged internally with a stippled band on that map.
3.-(1) In this article "the Zone areas" means the areas:
(a)to which the schemes listed in column 1 below respectively relate; and
(b)the boundaries of which are shown on the relevant map listed in column 2-

(2) The Zone areas are hereby designated as enterprise zones, and the council is hereby designated as the enterprise zone authority for those zones.
4. Designation under this Order shall take effect on 29th November 1995, and the designated areas shall remain enterprise zones for a period of 10 years from that date.

This Order designates as enterprise zones six areas which are located in the district of Easington, and which have been the subject of the following enterprise zone schemes adopted by the Easington District Council:
The East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 1 (Bracken Hill) Scheme;
The East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 2 (Peterlee North West Industrial Estate) Scheme;
The East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 3 (Peterlee South West Industrial Estate) Scheme;
The East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 4 (Seaham Grange) Scheme;
The East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 5 (Fox Cover) Scheme; and
The East Durham Enterprise Zone No. 6 (Dawdon) Scheme.
The designation is effective for a period of 10 years.
The location and areas of the enterprise zones are shown on the plans forming part of this note. The detailed maps referred to in article 2 may be inspected at the principal offices of the Easington District Council, and at the offices of the Secretary of State for the Environment.
