The Secretary of State for Social Security, in exercise of the power conferred by section 70(3) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1995.
2. The day appointed for the coming into force of sections 50, 51 and 52 of, and Schedule 5 to, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 is 1st January 1996.

This Order appoints 1st January 1996 as the day for the coming into force of sections 50, 51 and 52 of, and Schedule 5 to, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 which deal with the establishment and functions of the National Disability Council.
