HIGHWAYS, ENGLAND AND WALES

The A5 Trunk Road (Priorslee-Gailey) (Detrunking) Order 1995

Coming into force

1st April 1995

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:-

1. The lengths of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by a broken line on the plan shall cease to be trunk road and shall be classified as principal road as from the date when this Order comes into force.

2. In this Order--

(a)all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;

(i)"the plan"

means the plan numbered HA10/2WM 152, marked "The A5 Trunk Road (Priorslee-Gailey) (Detrunking) Order 1995", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;

(ii)"principal road"

as a classification for a highway, means that the high-way is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and

(iii)"the trunk road"

means the London-Holyhead Trunk Road (A5).

3. This Order shall come into force on 1st April 1995 and may be cited as the A5 Trunk Road (Priorslee-Gailey) (Detrunking) Order 1995.

SCHEDULELENGTHS OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE TRUNK ROAD AND WHICH WILL BECOME PRINCIPAL ROAD

The lengths of the trunk road ceasing to be trunk road are as follows:--

1. In the County of Shropshire, from the southern boundary of the bridge over the M54 motorway to Priorslee Roundabout, a distance of approximately 0.3 kilometre, as indicated by the letter 'A' on the plan;

2. In the County of Shropshire, from Priorslee Roundabout to the county boundary with Staffordshire, a distance of approximately 9.67 kilometres, as indicated by the letter 'B' on the plan;

3. In the County of Staffordshire, from the Staffordshire/Shropshire county boundary to its junction with the A449 Trunk Road at Gailey Roundabout, a distance of approximately 12.39 kilometres, as indicated by the letter `C' on the plan.
