1. This Scheme may be cited as the A556(M) Motorway (M6 to M56 Link) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1996 and shall come into force on 28th June 1996.
2. In this Scheme:
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) (i) "connecting road" means a special road along a route described in Schedule 2 of this Scheme;
(ii)"the Motorway" means a special road along the routes described in Schedule 1 to this Scheme;
(iii)"the plan" means the plan folio, containing a key and two scheme plans bound together, numbered HA/16/1/CNW 339, and marked "The A556(M) Motorway (M6 to M56 Link) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1996", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, LG12 Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR; and
(iv)"the special roads" means the Motorway and each connecting road.
3. The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special road for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.
4. The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.
5. Each of the special roads shalll become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

The routes of the Motorway are as follows:
1. A northbound route about 1.76 kilometres in length from the northbound carriageway of the M6 Motorway at a point on the highway boundary 80 metres south of the intersection of Tabley Hill Lane with the M6 Motorway centreline, turning in a north-westerly and then northerly direction to a point 384 metres north north east of the junction of Moss Lane with the A556 Chester Road, marked 1 on scheme plan 1 in the plan.
2. A southbound route about 1.4 kilometres in length from a point 384 metres north north east of the junction of Moss Lane with the A556 Chester Road in a southerly direction to link to the southbound carriageway of the M6 Motorway at a point on the highway boundary 222 metres north of the intersection of Tabley Hill Lane with the M6 Motorway centreline, marked 2 on scheme plan 1 in the plan.
3. A route about 2.2 kilometres in length from the northern ends of the northbound and southbound routes of the new motorways described in paragraphs 1 and 2 of this Schedule, turning in a north north westerly then northerly direction to the northern highway boundary of the A50 Warrington Road at a point 541 metres south east of the access of the Kilton Inn Public House, marked 9 on scheme plan 1 in the plan.
4. A route about 3.62 kilometres in length from the northern end of the route of the new motorway described in paragraph 3 of this Schedule, turning in a northerly then easterly direction to a point 372 metres east north east of the junction of Dirty Lane with A556 Chester Road, marked 10 on scheme plan 2 in the plan.
5. A northbound route about 1.37 kilometres in length from the northern end of the northbound carriageway of the new motorway described in paragraph 4 of this Schedule, in an east north easterly direction to the eastbound carriageway of the M56 Motorway at a point 336 metres west north west of the intersection of Ryecroft footbridge with the M56 Motorway centreline, marked 7 on scheme plan 2 in the plan.
8. A southbound route about 0.34 kilometres in length from the westbound carriageway of the M56 Motorway at a point 39 metres south south west of the intersection of Yarwoodheath Lane with the M56 Motorway centreline, in a westerly direction to the northern end of the southbound carriageway of the new motorway described in paragraph 4 of this Schedule, marked 8 on scheme plan 2 in the plan.
The routes of the connecting roads are as follows:
1. Two routes to connect the Motorway with the A556 Chester Road (at two new roundabouts to be constructed by the Secretary of State as improvements to the A556 Chester Road pursuant to the "A556(M) Motorway (M6 -� M56 Link) and Connecting Roads (Side roads) (No. 2) Order 1996") at Tabley (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the letters B and C on scheme plan 1 in the plan).
2. A route to the southbound carriageway of the Motorway from the A556 Chester Road at Bowdon (the special road along this route being given the letter D on scheme plan 2 in the plan).
3. A route from the northbound carriageway of the Motorway to connect with the A556 Chester Road at Bowdon (the special road along this route being given the letter E on scheme plan 2 in the plan).
