The A556 Trunk Road (Turnpike Wood, Over Tabley-A56 Bowdon Roundabout) (Detrunking) Order 1996

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:-

1. This Order may be cited as the A556 Trunk Road (Turnpike Wood, Over Tabley- A56 Bowdon Roundabout) (Detrunking) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 28th June 1996.

2. In this Order-

(i)"the new trunk roads" means the new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to construct pursuant to the A556(M) Motorway (M6-M56 Link) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1996;

(ii)"principal road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State;

(iii)"the trunk road" means the Turnpike Wood, Over Tabley-A56 Bowdon Roundabout Trunk Road (A556).

3. The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the Cheshire County Council that the new trunk roads are open for traffic.

THE SCHEDULELENGTH OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between a point on the A556 Trunk Road 570 metres north north east of its junction with Moss Lane at Tabley and a point at its junction with the Bowdon roundabout circulatory carriageway at Bowdon, Cheshire and is shown by broad black dashes on the plan numbered HA/10/1/CNW 342, marked "The A556 Trunk Road (Turnpike Wood, Over Tabley-A56 Bowdon Roundabout) (Detrunking) Order 1996", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, LG12 Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR.
