The A1 Trunk Road (Lengths of A1 Carriageway between Catterick and Barton) (Detrunking) Order 1996

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:-

1. This Order may be cited as the A1 Trunk Road (Lengths of A1 Carriageway between Catterick and Barton) (Detrunking) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 24th July 1996.

2. The lengths of the A1 and connecting slip roads described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the plan shall cease to be trunk road and shall be classified as classified road as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies North Yorkshire County Council that the Motorway and connecting roads are open for use as special roads.

3. In this Order:-

(i)"classified road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purpose of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;

(ii)"the Motorway and connecting roads" means the special roads which the Secretary of State is authorised to provide by the A1 Motorway (North of Leeming to Scotch Corner Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1996(3);

(iii)"the A1" means the A1 Trunk Road; and

(iv)"the plan" means one of the plans numbered 1 and 2 in the folio numbered HA7/RPD 96 marked "The A1 Trunk Road (Lengths of A1 Carriageway between Catterick and Barton) (Detrunking) Order 1996", signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, LG12, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR.

THE SCHEDULE

Lengths of the A1 ceasing to be a Trunk Road

The southbound slip road connecting the A6136 to the southbound carriageway of the A1 from its junction with the bus turning circle (marked -�A' on the Plan No. 1) southwards to a point 4 metres south of the junction with the bus turning circle (marked -�B' on the Plan No. 1).

The southbound slip road connecting the A1 southbound carriageway to the A6136 from its junction with the A6136 (marked -�C' on the Plan No. 1) westwards to a point 4 metres west of its junction with the A6136 (marked -�D' on the Plan No. 1).

The northbound slip road connecting the A1 northbound carriageway to the A6136 from its junction with the A6136 (marked -�E' on the Plan No. 1) eastwards to a point 15 metres east of its junction with the A6136 (marked -�F' on the Plan No. 1).

The northbound slip road connecting the A6136 to the northbound carriageway of the A1 from its junction with the A6136 (marked -�G' on the Plan No. 1) eastwards to a point 18 metres east of its junction with the A6136 (marked -�H' on the Plan No. 1).

The southbound slip road connecting the southbound carriageway of the A1 to the A6136 Gatherley Road from a point 32 metres north of the entrance to Fountain Head Farm (marked -�J' on the Plan No. 2) northwards to a point 76 metres north of the entrance to Fountain Head Farm (marked -�K' on the Plan No. 2).

The northbound slip roads connecting the A6136 to the northbound carriageway of the A1 from a point 100 metres north of the A6136 overbridge at Catterick North (marked -�L' on the Plan No. 2) northwards to a point 185 metres north of the A6136 overbridge at Catterick North (marked -�M' on the Plan No. 2).

The northbound slip road connecting the A6136 to the northbound carriageway of the A1 from a point 224 metres north of the A6136 overbridge at Catterick North (marked -�N' on the Plan No. 2) northwards to a point 252 metres north of the A6136 overbridge at Catterick North (marked -�O' on the Plan No. 2).

The northbound carriageway of the A1 from a point 320 metres north of the A6136 overbridge at Catterick North (marked -�P' on the Plan No. 2), generally northwards to a point 60 metres south of the entrance to Selgarth Farm (marked -�Q' on the Plan No. 2).

The northbound slip road connecting the A66 Scotch Corner roundabout to the northbound carriageway of the A1 from a point 55 metres north of the centre of Scotch Corner roundabout (marked -�R' on the Plan No. 2), generally northwards to its junction with the northbound carriageway of the A1 at a point 710 metres north of the centre of Scotch Corner roundabout (marked -�S' on the Plan No. 2).

The northbound carriageway of the A1 from a point 710 metres north of the centre of Scotch Corner roundabout (marked -�S' on the Plan No. 2), generally northwards to a point 410 metres north of Kneeton Hall overbridge (marked -�T' on the Plan No. 2).
