In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 11(3) of the Nursery Education and Grant-Maintained Schools Act 1996(1) the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Nursery Education and Grant-Maintained Schools Act 1996 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1996.
(2) In this Order "the Act" means the Nursery Education and Grant-Maintained Schools Act 1996.
2. Save as provided in article 3, the provisions of the Act shall come into force on 1st September 1996.
3. Article 2 shall not have effect for the purpose of bringing the following provisions of the Act into force:
(a)section 5, so far as it relates to the provisions of Schedule 1 not brought into force by this Order; and
(b)paragraph 6(1)(a), (2), (3) so far as it relates to inspections under paragraph 6(1)(a) and (5), paragraphs 8(2) and 14, so far as they relate to inspections under paragraph 6(1)(a), and paragraph 16 of Schedule 1.

This Order brings into force on 1st September 1996 all the provisions of the Nursery Education and Grant-Maintained Schools Act 1996 except the paragraphs of Schedule 1 (which relates to inspection of nursery education funded under the Act) set out in article 3 of the Order and section 5 so far as it relates to those provisions.
