The Drivers' Hours (Passenger and Goods Vehicles) (Exemption) Regulations 1996

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 96(10) of the Transport Act 1968(1) and now vested in him(2) and of all the enabling powers, after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 101(6) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:-

1. The Regulations may be cited as the Drivers' Hours (Passenger and Goods Vehicles) (Exemption) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on 9th February 1996.

2. Until 18th February 1996 a driver who during any working day or any working week spends time in driving passenger or goods vehicles and who spends time driving or on duty during that day or week to meet the special need occasioned by severe weather conditions in Great Britain or the effects or consequences of such severe weather conditions is exempted from the requirements of the domestic drivers' hours code in respect of that day or that week.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Rules)

These Regulations exempt until 18th February 1996 from the requirements of section 96(1) to (6) of the Transport Act 1968 a driver who during any working day or any working week spends time in driving passenger or goods vehicles and who spends time driving or on duty during that day or week to meet the special need occasioned by severe weather conditions in Great Britain or the effects or consequences of such severe weather conditions in respect of that day or that week.
