IMMIGRATION

The Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 (Commencement No. 3 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996

In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 13(3) and (4) of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996(1), the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 (Commencement No. 3 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996.

(2) In this Order "the Act" means the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996.

2.-(1) Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3) below, section 8 of the Act shall come into force on 27th January 1997.

(2) Section 8 of the Act shall not apply to employment which began before 27th January 1997.

(3) For the purpose only of making orders under subsections (1) and (2), section 8 of the Act shall come into force on 1st December 1996.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 27th January 1997 section 8 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, which contains restrictions on the employment of persons subject to immigration control. The Order provides that section 8 shall not apply to employment which began before that date. For the purpose only of making Orders, section 8 comes into force on 1st December 1996.
